Services Provided 

The Nutrition Program provides on average 50,000 meals to elderly residents in Marinette County. Older persons interested in obtaining a Home Delivered Meal are assessed and must meet eligibility requirements. Current policy under the Federal Older Americans Act enables us to serve these meals on a donation basis, which allows individuals to pay what they feel they can afford, thus targeting services to the more economically disadvantaged homebound persons. Suggested contribution is $5.00 per meal. 

Rural buses and meal site vans provide transportation to many county elderly. We provide an average of 5,000 rides per year throughout the county for various trip purposes. These include medical appointments, nutrition, and personal business/shopping. 

Volunteer Medical Escort Program serves those frail elderly who for various reasons are unable to ride the rural bus. Volunteer drivers provide transportation to medical appointments using their own vehicles and donating all of their time. 

The Elderly Benefit Specialist Program provides assistance to older persons regarding public benefits. On average, over 700 seniors are assisted per year with homestead tax credit, energy assistance applications, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security & SSI, SeniorCare (Wisconsin Prescription Drug Program), and other topics and issues. 

Information and Assistance Program links older persons and their families to opportunities and services available. Up-to-date information is provided to those requesting assistance, an average of over 14,000 contacts per year were made, providing information.  Follow up and referrals are made as needed. 

The Alzheimer's Program provides coordination, assessments, and referrals for caregivers of family members diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or other related disorders. Limited state dollars are available to assist families with respite care, supportive home care, and other goods and services.

The Family Caregiver Support Program offers information and assistance to family caregivers of persons 60 and older. Dollars are available for respite and supplemental services for those meeting eligibility requirements. Caregiver Support groups are also held monthly in Crivitz. 

CHAIN Reaction Week Project is held in spring/fall and helps elderly with much needed outdoor chore services including raking and window washing. This cannot be accomplished without our many dedicated volunteers throughout the county. 

Stepping On is a seven week workshop with guest speakers to reduce the rish of falls and increas quality of life. 

Topics include:

  • Simple and fun balance and strength training.
  • The role vision plays in keeping your balance.
  • How medication can contribute to falls.
  • Ways to stay safe when out and about in your community.
  • What to look for in safe footwear.
  • How to check your home for safety.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a six week workshop that provides tools for living a healthy life with chronic health conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, asthma, and heart disease. 

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a six week workshop to help identify and manage the physical, emotional. amd financial challenges that family caregiving can present and help caregivers connect with others facing similar feelings and problems. 

Mind Over Matter is a three session workshop designed to help women take control of bladder and bowel incontinence. 

Age Well Without Falls is a three week falls prevention class.

Stand Up for Your Health is a five week workshop to help older adults reduce sedentary behavior. 

AARP Driver Safety is taught by an AARP instructor, this is a one-day classroom-based driver refresher program with updated materials designed to help older persons improve their driving skills. There is no test and no behind-the-wheel lessons. This course has been shown to improve older adult's driving. Some insurance companies reduce auto insurance premiums for those successfully completing this course.
